Homemade Muesli

Muesli, the Swiss-German power breakfast was first introduced by a Swiss doctor to help sustain the patients at his hospital. Now, the rolled oat, fruit and nut breakfast is a staple of health conscious individuals everywhere, and I love it as well!

Sure, I may not be a health nut, but I cannot help but LOVE muesli! Everything about it makes you feel good and it really helps you start your day off right! But enough of that, how do you make the stuff?

  • Rolled oats
  • Dried figs
  • Dried dates
  • Slivered, blanched almonds
  • Flax seeds
  • Cinnamon

You can substitute any nuts or dried fruit for those in the above recipe, these are just my favorite! You can also add chia seeds if you can find them!

  • Large baking pan
  • Spatula
  • Large container

First, gather your supplies and preheat your oven to 325 degrees. Spread the rolled oats and flax seed out on the baking pan and place them in the oven to toast. Toast until the oats are golden and fragrant, around 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from oven and stir in cinnamon to taste. Set aside to cool.

While oats cool, slice figs and dates (or any dried fruit for that matter) to desired size. Personally, I like leaving them as discs, that way they maintain their texture.

Now stir your delicious dried fruit and slivered almonds in with your oats and flax seed and viola!

The breakfast of champions is now complete! Enjoy with milk, or on yogurt or cottage cheese for a calcium and energy packed breakfast!
